Every Tuesday, we are fortunate to have use of the Forest School at St Lawrence Primary School.
Part of The Howard Partnership Trust, St Lawrence is a popular primary school close to the nursery and many of our children have siblings that attend. The short stroll to and from Forest School is very much part of the adventure!
Research shows that spending time in a Forest School environment has many benefits for children including:
- An increase in confidence and self-belief promoting emotional and mental wellbeing
- Physical development and personal safety
- Learning to work as a team as well promoting independence
- Communication and problem-solving skills
- Developing a life long love and respect for the natural world
Under the guidance of the Forest School Leader and our nursery staff, the children can run and explore in the fresh air whilst learning new skills. Favourite activities include climbing trees, den-building and playing in the mud kitchen! A vital part of Forest School is learning and understanding fire safety; we are able to light an open fire, under close adult supervision, not only for keeping warm whilst singing our favourite songs but most enjoyably to cook a variety of different foods!
The children get to enjoy the facilities for two hours before returning to Nursery for lunch. After lunch ideas and activities from Forest School are continued in the afternoon session. The children are always excited to tell people about their adventures when they are collected at the end of the day.
